Reading the title you might think that this article is about the NCAA basketball tournaments. If so you are really wrong. It’s about my crazy month of March, because I am an Irish Dancer. I have been dancing for most of my life. I started with Ballet and Gymnastics when I was 3. That was also the 1st year that I went to the Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade. My parents said I was going crazy! I loved every bit of it, but there was one thing I loved more than anything else, The Irish Dancers. I even tried to do the dances they were doing. I looked at my parents and told them I want to do that. Three years past and when I was 6, I had my first class. And because of Irish dance I had to quit Girl Scouts and Gymnastics.

Dance has brought a lot of opportunities for me, especially traveling. It brought me to seven different states, one new country, and four regional championships, and of course eight Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parades.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is one of my favorite things about dance. It is so much fun! This year the Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade, was voted number 1 in the country! And my dance school, Bell School of Irish Step Dance won Best Overall Irish Dancers. Sure it’s a lot of dancing and marching, but it’s worth it. My favorite part of dancing in the parade, is either seeing everyone’s faces whenever we start dancing, or my dance school’s after party, when we sing, dance and eat. The Pittsburgh St. Patrick’s Day Parade is my favorite part.

The weekend after the parade is our annual showcase (recital). This year was the 15th, and I was in 8 of them. There are two shows, the early show and the late.  The beginners are in one dance, where they are introduced. The seniors and national and world qualifiers are also introduced and have a special dance. Most classes have two dances, unless they are not in hard shoes, which are like tap shoes with a fiber glass tips. Classes have the soft shoe dances danced in shoes called ghillies. Which are like ballet shoes, but are black and much cooler. Every class is named after a city in Ireland, and is in the final bow, where you dance for 2 bars of music, bow, and dance off of the stage. Every class, wear ghillies, except my class, and the national and world qualifiers.
